AOMORI

AOMORI is a vector illustration I made for the front covers of the “Rough Guide to Aomori” and the “CIR Tebiki.” These free pdfs are regularly updated by JET Program participants on the Aomori Prefectural Advisor team for new JETs who probably had never heard of Aomori prior to their placement. Having lived in Aomori for 6 years, it holds a special place in my heart and I thoroughly enjoyed using my vector skills to make this composition featuring some of the prefecture’s iconic imagery.

AOMORI Bookmark

During the COVID-19 pandemic, storefront displays, PSA signage, and commercial products featuring the yokai named Amabie (“a-ma-bee-ay”) surged in Japan. The mere image of this mythical mermaid creature from Japanese folklore is said to fend against illness. I jumped on this bandwagon and made my own interpretations of Amabie, including this drawing that I used as the backside of this bookmark. The bookmarks were printed via JimiAgency.

Patterns

I’ve recently become interested in seamless patterns for fabric, stationery, and other surface design. Assisted symmetry tools and color palette combinations make it process low-stress and the final result worthy of staring at for hours on end. I look forward to exploring this avenue more and am interested in licensing my designs.
